Lumia 520 Troubleshooting

You can’t make voice calls

  • When you try roaming and your mobile phone plan does not include caller ID and you are trying to make a call with caller ID on. You will need to turn it off if it is not included in your mobile phone plan. This is easy to correct by simply turning off the caller ID on your phone. Click on the  Phone Icon > the dots (bottom right) > Settings. You can turn the Caller ID Off or On.
  • You might have Flight Mode On so you might need to turn it Off. This is Settings > Flight Mode now turn it off.
  • Always check that you have credit on your phone.
  • Can you call other telephones such as your house phone or is the specific number the only one you cannot call. The person you are calling might only accept calls with caller ID?
  • Check your network coverage in the area where you are at.
  • Does your roaming cover the area where you are in? Do you have roaming enabled on your price plan?
  • Has your number been suspended?
  • Check your network selection in your settings. Make sure that it is correct. Check with Settings > Mobile Network and change it to automatic.

You can’t receive voice calls

  • Check to ensure that you dont have call forwarding on. the  Phone Icon > the dots (bottom right) > Settings. Make sure that Call Forwarding is turned Off.
  • The telephone might be ‘frozen”. Remove the battery from the phone for a minute and reinsert the battery.

You can’t send text messages

  • Check to see if you have your SMS setup correctly. You might have the wrong message centre number. See here to check the SMS setup.
  • Check that the number you are sending to is correct especially in your address book.

You can’t receive text messages

  • Make sure that you have enough space on your mobile phone.
  • The telephone might be ‘frozen”. Remove the battery from the phone for a minute and reinsert the battery.

You can’t send picture messages

  • Check that the picture itself is viewable without errors;
  • Now check the size of the attachment as many mobile networks limit the size of the attachments;
  • Check your APN settings. Settings > Mobile Networks > Add mms apn (Check the APN name, User Name, Password, WAP Gateway, Port, MMSC)
  • Check that the person you are sending to you has not blocked you.

You can’t receive picture messages

  • The message is to large for your phone.
  • Check your APN settings

You can’t use Wi-Fi

  • Your WiFi has not been setup correctly. See here
  • Check if there is a hotspot in the area where you are.
  • The hotspot has blocked access to you.

You can’t browse the internet

  • Your mobile phone might have limitations so clear the browser before you browse the internet.
  • Now check your APN settings.  Settings > Mobile Networks > Add mms apn (Check the APN name, User Name, Password, WAP Gateway, Port, MMSC)
